Description
Question 1: Are there any concerns with Aluminum post being placed in concrete? The Army Corps of Engineers and some building codes do not allow it. Answer: This is not an Army Corps job. The product below meets and removes the threat of the concrete concerns. This product is one of the solutions and is recommended by AmeristarFence.com. QUIK-ROK® is a chemically engineered hydraulic cement. Which when mixed with water forms a pourable mix whose self-leveling characteristics make it an ideal grouting material. Controlled expansion enables QUIK-ROK® to develop "lock-in" adhesion which can withstand loads in excess of 10,000 psi. It is designed to set within 15 minutes, under normal conditions. The fence product is powder coated, and capping at the end will prevent any of the harmful effects of Quik-Rok or concrete on the aluminum. Question 2. Will the hand railing be removed for the first +/-90 feet of fencing between the existing main gate and the new main gate? Answer: Yes. Question 3. No specific specifications are provided for the fencing panel, gates, or gate hardware only general requirement. We are assuming they will be similar to existing and will qualify our bid. Answer: Yes, bid accordingly three rail fence is recommended. Items selected should be of good quality and resist the elements that they will be in and meets or exceed its application. Question 4. Will metal shavings from a saw or grinder be prohibited from entering the water while demolishing the existing fence? Answer: Yes, every attempt will be made to protect the marine sanctuary. 1. Aluminum can be powder coated instead of just being painted and is the preferred method. 2. Bolt down tabs shall be used in same locations as fence being removed and are ok on post on the pier and are to be similar to existing. 3. The areas where the post will be concreted in have about 6" of asphalt and then solid (questionable integrity due to salt water) concrete below the asphalt. The detail in the scope shows 36" deep post but per the job walk, as little as 12" may be ok if the posts are rigid. QUIK-ROK® is a chemically engineered hydraulic cement; which when mixed with water forms a pourable mix whose self-leveling characteristics make it an ideal grouting material. 4. He stated it is our responsibility to deal with questionable integrity of concrete when core drilling so we will qualify our bid in respect to what we anticipate and budget for. Realistically the scope was generated off of manufactures recommendation. We are aware of the location of installation and that the depth of the pier may not allow that depth of recommendation to be reached. The allowable depth will be determined when an average allowable depth is identified due to the uneven pored foundation of the pier. A core drill of 5" wide by 10" deep would be a good # to go by. 5. Existing post to be cut flush and filled with concrete or similar. 6. Provide temp fencing at start of the dock during construction or you could just build that gate first. 7. Materials can be stored on the end of the dock 8. All existing fencing will be removed 9. Existing latch assembly to be reused on 3 man gates. 10. Two man gates to have hardware compatible with padlocks. 3 man gates should have padlock Compatible and three vehicle should be set up for padlock. 11. Reuse or replacement of closures to be up to the contractor. All code access gates shall have new door assets closure installed. 12. No specifications are provided for the access restriction measures (i.e. expanded metal) around latches. Provide something similar to existing. If a safety concern is evident, contractors can bid accordingly to meet that concern example expanded metal on vehicle gate to prevent pedestrians from sticking their hands into the gate. 13. Repair the chain-link fence, about 18", where existing main gate is removed. Yes, if it means to make a continuous fence where removing the old pier gate entrance. You will have to create an opening where the new pier access will go.
