- ***The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 6.302-1 with CEM Corporation in Matthews, NC for the purchase of Microwave Accelerated Reaction System (MARS) including all required components.*** *** NIST has a current requirement for a CEM MARS which offers parts that are 100% compatible with two existing CEM systems currently at NIST. Having interchangeable parts is a significant cost savings to the Government. Additionally, the CEM system offers some critical features not offered by other microwave digestion manufacturers. No other vendor offers a system that offers interchangeable parts that will be 100% compatible with the existing systems and can meet the minimum requirements of the Government. CEM is the sole manufacturer and distributor of this system. ***Delivery shall be FOB Destination, Gaithersburg, MD, and is required within 30 days after receipt of order.*** ***The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 employees.*** ***No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, the Government will consider responses received by August 10, 2011.*** A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
