Description
Prospective quoters must consider the following supplemental information prior to submitting a quote for this Request for Quotations (RFQ). Refer to more detailed specifications in original synopsis/solicitation that use the same numbering system below. REQUIREMENTSITEM 1, PEELED LOGS a) Hand-peel: We prefer clean peel (both bark and cambium removed) rather than skip peel. b) Diameter: Of the 85 Douglas-fir logs, 80% (68 each) need to be 8-11" diameter and of the 15 western red cedar logs, 80% (12 each) need to be 8-11" diameter. The remainder for each species should be in the 6-12" diameter range, in a mix of both smaller and larger diameters. No logs may be smaller than 6" diameter at either end.d) Quality: Graded as "wall logs" per ASTM D3957 and as described in the chart titled "Limiting Characteristics for Grading Wall Logs" (available for downloading at http://www.coventryloghomes.com/content/view/140/10007/; click on "Download the Wall Grade Chart" about halfway down the page). Two of the Douglas-fir logs in the 8-11" category must meet "Header Grade" requirements and the other 98 logs must meet "Wall Grade" requirements. The reference to WCLIB standard stated in the original synopsis/solicitation is deleted. All logs must meet the previously-stated requirement of 7 or more annual growth rings per inch at the butt end. Logs must be from trees that were dead standing or green when felled and subsequently seasoned (under 30% average moisture content). ITEM 2, DELIVERYThe contractor is responsible for furnishing and installing appropriate dunnage that will become NPS property. The contractor is responsible for all aspects of off-loading the logs and stacking them at the Parade Ground, including providing appropriate equipment and operators. NPS employees and equipment will not assist. Delivery and stacking must be completed prior to October 1, 2011. PRICE SCHEDULEPrice is per log (regardless of size or board feet) per species as described in the original RFQ.
