- Description
- CALF PEN PROGENY SITE TREE REMOVAL PROJECT. THE SOLICITATION FOR THIS PROJECT WILL BE POSTED IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. The purpose and intent of this solicitation is to contract for BACKGROUND The Forest Service is in need of emergency tree removal in the Calf Pen Progeny Site. The mountain pine beetle is currently active and has already killed several trees in 2010. In 2011, additional trees have been successfully attacked and are dying. These trees (dead and still green) need to be removed from the progeny site this fall to protect the progeny site from mountain pine beetle infestation next year. In addition, other trees have been snow damaged and once these trees break off, the potential for IPS populations to build up within the progeny site is great. These trees would also be removed. The Progeny site is a Ponderosa Pine site thus all trees designated for removal are Ponderosa Pine. SCOPE OF CONTRACT The mandatory work item in this solicitation includes cutting designated trees, whole tree yarding, limbing and bucking, and piling slash. Optional work item #2 in this solicitation includes removing all slash material off site, to be disposed of at the Contractor's discretion. Optional work item #3 includes removing tree boles less than six (6) inches in diameter off site, to be disposed of at the Contractor's discretion. All work items are located on the Payette National Forest, Council Ranger District. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies and incidentals to perform all work necessary on the area specified. All aspects of the work program shall be performed in an organized, systematic manner to assure services will be performed per contract specifications. LOCATION DESCRIPTION The general project area is approximately 29 miles northwest of Council, ID in Adams County. The general location of the Calf Pen Progeny Site is shown on the vicinity map. A Progeny Site Map is included and identifies the 5 blocks where work would be accomplished. Detailed Progeny Site Block Maps are included and show the location of the trees needing to be removed. The project is located in T19N, R3W, Section 9. Work may begin in mid to late September when is the determined that the Northern Idaho Ground Squirrel has moved underground. All trees to be cut have been designated with green paint. Pink flagging is also wrapped around the bole of the designated cut trees and is useful for finding the trees in the progeny site; however the pink flagging is not the actual determining factor for which trees are to be removed. There is a fair amount of old flagging scattered throughout the progeny site from previous work. Road access from Council, ID is along the Council/Cuprum Road (rd 002 on vicinity map), turning left onto the 073 road. The project is approximately 2 miles in along the 073 road. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies and incidentals to complete the project. The estimated start date is Mid to Late September will have 10 days to complete. NAICS CODE: 115310, $7.0 Million
