Description
NASA Ames Research Center has a requirement for One Velodyne HDL-32E LiDAR Sensor. The intended use is to provide specialized sensing capability for a robotic vehiclesnavigation system. These vehicles will operate at unprecedented speeds over extremeterrain and in tunnels; The sensor will enable the rover to detect hazards and map theenvironment under conditions of extremely bad illumination, occlusions, and with absolutereliability all around the vehicle and simultaneously over a 30 degree range of pitchangles.NASA Ames Research Center intends to purchase this item from Velodyne Acoustics, Inc.,Morgan Hill, CA 95037 under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b), One source reasonablyavailable. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12 and the procurementwill be conducted under Simplified Acquisition Procedures set forth under FAR Part 13. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 1:00 p.m. local timeon September 16, 2011.Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for thepurpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and opencompetition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretionof the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.
