- W911SF11C0039J&A The Directorate of Public Works needs to replace the roof to Building 2446 at LAAF which received major damage caused by high speed winds. The winds caused the existing EPDM roofing membrane to detach from the insulation over a significant portion of the hangar. This in turn caused collateral damage to other roofing components such as, but not limited to, the gutters, downspouts, lightning protection system, flashings and the insulation. Background: Building 2446 serves as home to the airfield's Sikorsky Blackhawk helicopters. The building houses a maintenance shop for the helicopters which support invaluable training for the many high profile units on Fort Benning. Building 2446 protects the Army's expensive helicopters and testing and maintenance equipment and their components from the elements when the aircraft are being serviced. The damaged roof hampers the performance of this vital aircraft maintenance. The inability to perform timely and adequate maintenance on these aircraft will cause a substantial negative impact on the training mission at Fort Benning.
