Description
Solicitation cover letter Solicitation The term "Advanced Diagnostics and Prognostics" (ADP) refers generally to this application of automated monitoring, condition prognosis, and incipient failure detection. ADP includes applications to mechanical and electrical equipment. It also includes self testing of digital systems, including calibration verification for digital system (I/O) interfaces. Properly designed and implemented, ADP can clearly benefit the safe and reliable operation of a fuel cycle facility or nuclear power plant. But it is also possible for failure or incorrect operation of ADP resources to inhibit proper operation. In addition, the implementation of ADP involves the addition of equipment and software, and tends to make systems more complicated. Added complexity, unfortunately, brings with it an increased potential for hidden or unanticipated couplings and dependencies, and ultimately the possibility of an increased likelihood of failure. The tasks under this contract will provide technical guidance, regulatory-based acceptance criteria, and recommendations for tools and methodologies (TM) to support regulatory evaluation of proposed applications of ADP. These tasks also include assistance to NRC staff in preparing review processes and inspection procedures. The results of this work may result in improved NRC regulatory guidance on safety system network designs. Please see attached request for proposal.
