- Description
- The hydrant fueling system on their installation consists of a total of 18 fueling pits and 3 isolation pits. Of these 21 hydrant pits lids, 14 of them are balanced using torsion springs vice counter-balance weights. These pits were installed with the expansion of the aircraft parking apron in 1994. The counter-balance springs are original to the construction. Fourteen (14) of the spring balanced lids have broken or weak spring assemblies. Without properly functioning spring assemblies, the lids are too heavy for a single person to open.
