Description
REPAIR BRICK WALL AT COMMS STA Oswego, NY Existing Conditions: The masonry wall directly above the north facing communications room windows is leaking badly, allowing water into the building. A recent project replaced limited quantities of deteriorated masonry and mortar, and replaced rusting lintels as well. This particular area is the only location where water is leaking into the building. The wall is constructed as a mechanically bonded wall (as opposed o a cavity wall.) Options to install extended flashings or a moisture barrier are limited. Therefore, re-pointing and sealing of entire area is proposed. Site Visit: Contractor shall visit the site before submitting bids. Interested parties shall make arrangements for a site visit with MK1 Jason Whitten, Engineering Petty Officer at Station Oswego at 315-343-1551. Military Regulations: The Contractor, his employees, and sub contractors shall become familiar with and obey all station regulations. All personnel employed on the project shall keep within the limits of the work and avenues of ingress and egress, and shall not enter any other areas outside the site of work unless required to do so in the performance of their duties. The Contractor's equipment shall be conspicuously marked for identification. There shall be no smoking in any Coast Guard building. Work Hours: Within the limits of current security requirements, the Contractor shall have unlimited access to the jobsite to perform the necessary repairs. Further requirements on worksite hours will be provided by the Engineering Petty Officer. Temporary Utilities: Temporary utilities (water and electricity) are available to the Contractor for the performance of this work. Scope of Work: General: Re-point all masonry between the top of communications room window and the sill of the second story window above. Replace all cracked brick in this same area. Cut out loose or deteriorated mortar to the full depth of its deterioration. Cut out adjacent, existing mortar out to a depth of one quarter inch, minimum. Replace cracked brick with new matching units with full depth fresh mortar or grout. Re-point entire area in successive layers with pointing mortar which includes a latex water repellent additive. Tool exposed joints slightly concave when the mortar is thumbprint hard. Use jointer slightly larger than the width of the joint so complete contact is made along the edges of the units, compressing and sealing the surface of the joint. Clean area with proprietary masonry cleaner after mortar is thoroughly set and cured. Wet all wall surfaces with water prior to application of cleaner. After cleaning, apply a clear, breathable water repellent sealer (such as a siloxane based compound) to exposed surfaces at the area of masonry repairs. Cleanup of Work Areas: The Contractor shall remove and properly dispose of all trash and debris incident to the contract work from the limits of government property, as well as all adjacent affected areas. Any surfaces that may have been stained or soiled by the contract work shall be restored to pre-construction condition. Acceptance of Work: Prior to acceptance of work by the Coast Guard, the contractor shall arrange through the Engineering Petty Officer an inspection of the work site to ensure proper completion, to identify necessary corrective work, and to ensure proper work area cleanup. Performance Period: All work shall be completed within 21 days after award. Vendor should be listed in CCR: https// www.bpn.gov/ccr/.
