Description
DARPA-SN-12-16 - F6 Demo Bus RFI DARPA's System F6 program will culminate in a 2015 on-orbit demonstration. The demonstration is presently envisioned to consist of four spacecraft--or fractionated modules--flying in a cluster. Each of the spacecraft is equipped with an F6 Technology Package (F6TP), 1 connected to a wireless inter-module cross-link transceiver, and running a protocol stack in accordance with the F6 Developer's Kit (FDK) 2 standard. Additionally, each spacecraft carries one or more payloads which the F6 architectures allows to be treated as shared network resources by the entire cluster. These payloads may be computing or data storage devices, additional communications transceivers, or navigation or mission sensors. DARPA does not anticipate funding any bus development efforts as part of the System F6 program. Instead, DARPA is ultimately looking to procure mature, low-cost, small satellite buses on which to host the F6 demonstration hardware. This Request for Information (RFI) is aimed at enhancing DARPA's understanding of existing or anticipated commercial off-the-shelf (COTS)-available small satellite buses. DARPA is also interested in mature buses that may be in a halted stage of development. Also of interest are funded spacecraft that will be flown in orbits that could serve as a host for a F6TP and connected experimental payloads. Such a spacecraft would ultimately need to be able to become one of the modules in an F6 demo cluster. Please see the attached RFI for additional details.
