- Description
- Sandia National Laboratories seeks interested parties for commercializing a patent-pending hybrid polymer-nanocomposite optical coating technology, a recipient of two prestigious R&D 100 awards. Compared to expensive and complex vacuum-deposition techniques such as sputtering or chemical vapor deposition (CVD), this evaporation-driven self-assembly technology allows simple dip, spray, or reel-to-reel deposition of optical quality films. Multilayer films have been demonstrated for high-reflectivity and antireflection, as well as hydrophilic and superhydrophobic surface properties. This platform technology enables a critical breakthrough in optical materials: the independent management of optical and chemical properties of an optical-quality film. It is potentially suitable for use on large or irregular surfaces including solar panels, windshields, or consumer electronics. Sandia seeks to license technologies for the benefit of the US industry. It is anticipated that commercial licenses may grant rights on a competitive basis to qualified interested parties for appropriate consideration. Licensing options may include grants for defined fields of use, non-exclusive rights, exclusive, or sublicensing rights. Partnerships to commercialize this technology may also take the form of Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs). Sandia National Laboratories is a multiprogram laboratory managed and operated by Sandia Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, for the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration under Contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.
