- Description
- The US Air Force is currently conducting a study to determine the technical and economic feasibility of improving the A-10 MLG wheel/brake/antiskid system. As part of market research, the AF is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to gather supplier inputs as part of that study, and will be used to support a USAF determination of whether or not to pursue a radial tire improvement program for the A-10 fleet. General information about the A-10 fleet and aircraft, as well as preliminary requirements for aircraft tires may be requested through the contracting office. In developing your response you are reminded that the Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this RFI or otherwise pay for the information solicited. This is not a guarantee of a future solicitation. Also, failure to respond to this RFI will NOT preclude you from the opportunity to propose on any future solicitation on this requirement. REQUESTED INFORMATION 1) Please provide a description of the A-10 radial MLG aircraft tire design that would meet the preliminary requirements specified by USAF preliminary requirements and by Aircraft Tire Specification 8631526. Suppliers may, at their option, provide more than one radial aircraft tire design concept for consideration. Specifically, please provide comments on your design of the tread groove pattern to address the camber conditions which are typically seen on the A-10 MLG. 2) In providing your response, please point out any changes that might occur in the tire design recommendation in a case where the loads are approximately 10% higher. 3) Please provide Aircraft Tire Data Sheets, including estimated maximum weight and recommended ply rating, for the case using USAF Aircraft Tire Specification 8631526 and Engineering Change Order 57A101 dated May 28, 1987, and, for a 2nd case with loads approximately 10% higher as stated in #2 above. 4) Please comment on the aircraft tire performance requirements included in this RFI that may be problematic for an A-10 new radial MLG aircraft tire design. Specifically, please provide comments on the ability of the aircraft tire design to handle the camber conditions which are typically seen on the A-10 MLG. 5) Please provide a program schedule for each proposed radial aircraft tire design that highlights the major program milestones between program launch and qualified flight test tire delivery. The objective is to provide information that will identify program phases and deliverables, and will provide a general understanding of the amount of time required for the qualification of test tires and production of the flight test tires. 6) Please indicate the production lead time required prior to initial delivery of tires for introduction to the fleet. Please identify any challenges from a supplier's perspective related to supporting fleet retrofit over two years. 7) Please identify requirements and recommendations for new equipment and tools which may be required by the USAF for use with each new radial aircraft tire proposed, including mounting and dismounting equipment. 8) Please provide the following information for your improved A-10 MLG radial aircraft tire design: • Projected landings per tread life to maximum wear limit. (Please specify expected maximum wear limit, ie. MWL = X) • Projected landings per tire tread life to the recommended wear limit if the customer wants to retread the tire. (Please specify the expected recommended wear limit.) • Number of times the proposed radial aircraft tire design can be retreaded. Provide weight savings, if any, for a retreadable design versus a non-retreadable design. • Cost to the government (if any) for development and qualification of a new radial A-10 MLG aircraft tire. • Radial MLG aircraft tire costs - installs and initial spares • Radial MLG aircraft tire costs - replenishment tires 9) Please identify any other critical program issues/problems you anticipate and indentify potential mitigations for them. General aircraft operational information and draft Preliminary Requirements must be requested by potential DoD contractors through the contracting office. The Point of Contact (POC) for this RFI is Leah Clark (Tel: 801-777-9346, e-mail: leah.clark@hill.af.mil).
