- Description
- NASA/GSFC has a requirement for two (2) high output paraffin (HOP) actuators.NASA/GSFC intends to purchase the items from Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) SpaceSystems pursuant to FAR 13.106, for the acquisition of supplies or services determined tobe reasonably available from only one source. The high output paraffin actuators are required for use in the Cloud-Aerosol TransportSystem-International Space Station (CATS-ISS) receiver. The actuators must be compatiblewith existing hardware and hardware designs. SNC is the only company that has HOPactuators meeting all the following requirements and can meet the 4-month lead time:high ouput paraffin actuatorvacuum compatiblephysical size: 1.50' diameter x 2.80' length0.300' powered strokeoperating temperature: -65C to +80Cdynamic load 260 lb-f (1154 N) perpendicular to pin axis during retractionquasi-static load 350 lb-f (1557 N) perpendicular to pin axis at end of pin when atnominal extensions. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local timeon December 19, 2011. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for thepurpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis.A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and opencompetition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretionof the government.Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice.NASA Clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, is applicable.
