- Description
- 5 DECEMBER 2011 There were a couple of questions asked regarding the solicitation posted. The engineer has provided her answers and they are posted along with the question below. Question The solicitation is for two extended area low temperature blackbodies. However, the solicitation specifies only one refrigerated circulation bath (which we refer to as "chiller"). Does that mean that the two blackbodies will be operated at same or similar temperatures? Generally, if they need to be temperature cycled independently, we may need two chillers. Response We plan to operate one blackbody at a time, so we would be using ablackbody, the chiller, and the enclosure. The enclosure will be purged with nitrogen to prevent water vapor from condensing or freezing on the emitting surface. The second blackbody is a spare. Question Item 3.2.1 talks about the openings on two sides of the enclosure (I assume that the two blackbodies are facing in opposite directions inside the enclosure). The opening for the infrared thermometer must be capable of being closed/sealed in between measurements. How big does that opening need to be? Does it need to be closed in some sort of an automated manner? Or manually? Response One opening of the enclosure needs to fit over the emitting surface of the blackbody. The second opening is opposite of the first opening so we can measure the emitting surface with an infrared thermometer or infrared camera. We plan on measuring IRTs with a distance to spot size of 20:1 or better so a four inch opening should be sufficient. The second opening may be closed manually or automatically. Question In section 4.1.4 on Physical dimensions, are the weight and size requirements for the whole enclosure with two blackbodies inside it? Response Each blackbody must not exceed 80 pounds. The chiller must not exceed 120 pounds. We do not intend to operate the chiller inside the enclosure.
