- The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) division located in Raleigh, NC intends to issue a sole source contract award to the Florida Museum of Natural History located in Gainesville, FL for terrestrial mollusk identification services for the eastern United States under the authority of FAR 6.302-1 and 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1). Exotic snail and slug surveys are conducted under the Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey program, and the APHIS PPQ division needs an expert source for the rapid identification of exotic mollusks for the early detection of problem species and any necessary mitigative response. The Florida Museum of has an extensive molluscan collection numbering in the millions of specimens, and an expert staff member is available to perform the identification services. No other provider with similar expertise has been discovered to date that can offer the required identification services. An indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract will establish firm-fixed pricing for mollusk identification samples. The total contract value over 5 years (01/01/2012 to 12/31/2017) is not-to-exceed $60,000.00. This notice is for informational purposes only. No formal solicitation will be issued.
