Description
Trim Coil Power Supply Basic Specification Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), a federally funded research and development center operated by The Trustees of Princeton University under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, seeks expressions of interest from firms with the capability and capacity to design, assemble, and deliver Power Supply Units (PSUs) to power trim coils on a Stellarator type fusion device located in Germany. PPPL anticipates the procurement of five (4 - Type A, 1 - Type B) Power Supply Units within fiscal year 2012 (ending September 30, 2012). Each power supply unit consists of an AC-DC converter front end, a capacitor bank DC-link, and a switching power supply back end. While the experiment is pulsed in nature, the pulse length is such that the power supply rating should be considered as steady state. The basic specification requirements for the Power Supply Units are described in the attached table and will be further documented in a specification attached to a Request for Proposals (RFP) anticipated to be released during fiscal year 2012. The Power Supply Units described above require four-quadrant operation; however, PPPL would like to receive industry comments on the feasibility of a lower cost option using standard two-quadrant rectifiers of the same basic rating. This is not a request for proposals (RFP) but a Sources Sought request. Neither Princeton University nor the U.S. Government will reimburse offerors for any costs incurred in responding to this announcement. Expressions of interest, including comments on the feasibility of the two-quadrant rectifier option, may be sent via email to the RFP Coordinator, Mr. Kevin Ranahan at kranahan@pppl.gov. Please include company name, individual point of contact name, mailing address, telephone number, fax number and email address. When a formal solicitation is issued for this requirement, offerors responding to this announcement will be notified.
