- This is a notice of intent, not a request for a proposal. A solicitation document will not be issued and proposals will not be requested. The National Institute on Drug Abuse, Office of Acquisitions-Neuroscience, Station Support/Simplified Acquisition (SS/SA) on behalf of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) intends to negotiate and award a purchase order on a sole source, noncompetitive basis to Carl Zeiss Microimaging, LLC., One Zeiss Drive, Thornwood, NY 10594 for a 12 month service/maintenance agreement for a Zeiss LSM 510 NLO Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope System (Serial No. 851301). This instrument is an essential tool for the research program in NIA’s Gerontology Research Center. Maintenance and on-demand repair of this microscope is essential to the productivity of this research. The service agreement includes the following: (1) Scheduled and emergency service performed between the hours of 8 A.M. and 5 P.M. Monday through Friday; (2) All travel charges within the continental USA; (3) One preventative maintenance inspection per Service Agreement year; (4) All covered replacement parts; (5) Applications support/training; (6) Software updates when available; (7) Factory trained Field Service Representatives. Carl Zeiss Microimaging, LLC. is the sole provider of service agreements for the Zeiss microscope. Carl Zeiss Microimaging, LLC.. provides factory-trained service engineers and has specialty and proprietary parts necessary for proper repairs of the microscope. In addition, only Zeiss personnel has access to drawings, schematics, and other items and supplies necessary for effective troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of the microscope. The acquisition is being conducted under simplified acquisition procedures using FAR Part 12 and is exempt from the requirements of FAR Part 6, Competition Requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. Interested parties may identify their interest and capabilities in response to this synopsis. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government. Comments to this announcement, referencing synopsis number 2392542 may be submitted to the NIDA Station Support/Simplified Acquisitions Branch, 31 Center Drive, Bldg. 31, Room 1B59, Bethesda, Maryland 20892-2080 to the Attention of Korriise LaRoche, Contracting Officer.
