Description
The Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division (NAVEODTECHDIV) is seeking Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and near COTS systems capable of detecting trace explosives in a maritime environment. Trace detection should address commercial, military, and home made explosives. Systems may utilize detection methods such as, but not limited to, colorimetric chemistry, spectroscopy (ion mobility, Mass, infrared, Raman, XRF, terahertz, etc), imaging techniques such hyperspectral imaging, or a combination of several methods of detection. Detection systems should be designed for, or be able to operate in, an outdoor or maritime environment, and/or be otherwise ruggedized or hardened. Trace detection technologies are traditionally used for screening personnel and objects at security checkpoints or other locations. In some cases, these checkpoints may be located outdoors and/or in harsh environments, such as those experienced while onboard an underway ship or at a pier-side location. Systems operating in these environments are expected to perform their function (trace explosive detection) effectively and consistently, even in the presence of moisture, temperature fluctuations, salt, and other marine conditions with minimal to no degradation in performance over time.
