Description
NASA/JSC has a requirement for the analysis and evolutionary design optimization ofa Variable Flux Memory Motor specifically concerning nonlinear, saturation effects withinthe steel and machine dynamics. NASA/JSC intends to aquire this analysis from Purdue University located in WestLafayette, Indiana. Purdue University possesses design codes for evolutionary geneticoptimization of a variable flux permanent magnet synchronous machine and is the onlyknown entity that can optimize a variable flux permanent magnet synchronous machine usingevolutionary methods. Purdue will provide NASA an updated Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB) design code files toinclude the effects of magnetic saturation and rotor position. Purdue will provide NASA a detailed finite element analysis of a 4 pole and 6 polemachines, specifically investigating torque generation, machine inductances, currentdensity and steel saturation. The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to Jessica Miller at jessica.c.miller@nasa.gov not later than 4:30 p.m.local time on April 27, 2012. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solelyfor the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on acompetitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposedeffort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, issolely within the discretion of the government.Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. NASA Clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, is applicable. The Center Ombudsman for thisacquisition can be found at http://prod.nais.nasa.gov/pub/pub_library/Omb.html.
