Description
This is a pre-solicitation synopsis in accordance with FAR Part 5. The United States Coast Guard Surface Forces Logistics Center has a requirement for Marine Structural (Shipfitter) Services. The Government anticipates awarding a requirements type contract for one (1) base year and four (4) option years. The NAICS code for this requirement is 336611 and the small business size standard is 1,000 employees. All work will be performed at the U.S. Coast Guard Yard, Curtis Bay, Baltimore, MD on vessels both in dry-dock and pier side. The requirement for the Marine Structural Services will be fulfilled using the procedures of FAR Part 12. A solicitation will tentatively be posted to FedBizOpps on or about 31 May 2012. The Contractor shall be required to weld shell plating and weld fabricated cast or forged components, according to specifications provided with each task order and a commercially reasonable personal knowledge of welding characteristics of metal. The Contractor shall be required to weld parts in position for fabrication of vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies, use carbon electrodes to cut, shape and grove metal. The Contractor shall be required to read and interpret from drawings, sketches, and specifications as required, to complete assigned task. In addition, Contractor shall be able to layout, change and install shell plates, framing, bulkhead plating, watertight doors, equipment foundations, handrails and ladders. The Contractor shall prepare workplaces for welding by cleaning and/or preheating. Marine Structural Services will include both exterior and interior areas of the vessel. This includes all compartments such as engine rooms, berthing areas, heads, tanks, bilges, and weather decks. The contractor must be proficient with all basic tools and equipment commonly used in the trade. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which, if timely received and in accordance with the solicitation, shall be considered by this agency. Responses shall be concise and be specifically directed to the requirement referenced above. It is the offerors responsibility to monitor FedBizOpps for changes or amendments to this notice.
