- THIS IS MARKET RESEARCH/SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE SEEKING INFORMATION ONLY. This is NOT an Invitation for Bid (IFB), a Request for Proposal (RFP) or a Request for Quote (RFQ). Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ is seeking responses in order to determine interest in the following outreach and integrated educational program. The 355th Contracting Squadron, Davis-Monthan AFB AZ (DMAFB), is seeking interested School Districts (public or private) to manage/administer a STARBASE Academy Program at DMAFB. STARBASE is a premier educational program that exposes at-risk youth to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The students interact with military personnel to explore careers and observe STEM applications in the "Real World". STARBASE Academy provides a minimum of 700 hours of classroom contact per year. Academies shall choose between the following schedules: Give 20 classroom contact hours of instruction spread over 4 days, with 35 classes of instruction per year. Or, give 25 classroom contact hours of instruction spread over 5 days, with 28 classes of instruction per year. Class size may range from 20-25 pupils. STARBASE Core Curriculum includes the following mandatory areas of classroom contact instruction: Newton's Law of Motion; Four Forces of Flight; Bernoulli's Principle; Model Rocketry; Aircraft Control Surfaces and Components; Properties of Air; Development, Innovation and Use of Technology; Properties and States of Matter; Flight Simulation; Goal Setting; Teamwork; and Avoiding Substance Abuse. Additional STARBASE Academy areas of classroom instruction may include: Math, to include logic, graphics, computer science, and navigation; Earth Science, to include archeology, environmental studies, and/or anthropology; Physical Sciences, to include physics, aeronautics, and/or chemistry; Life Sciences, to include biology, nutrition, hydroponics, and/or substance abuse; Social Sciences, to include team building, goal setting, self esteem, and/or citizenship; Other Applications of Technology, to include forensics, robotics, engineering, and/or applications of technology.
