- On behalf of the US Army Institute for Environmental Medicine (USARIEM). Under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), the U.S. Army Contracting Command-APG, Natick Contracting Division, Natick, MA intends to award a Firm fixed Price Purchase Order to Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) of Johnston PA. CTC has previously been employed by USARIEM investigators to successfully conduct research at Ft Sill. The services required are to provide research support for a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled nutrition intervention trial (calcium and vitamin D supplement or placebo) in soldiers during basic combat training (BCT) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Soldier volunteers will be asked to take the supplement twice daily for the duration of BCT (9/10 weeks). USARIEM will be collecting data (blood, urine, anthropometric and surveys) before and after BCT. This effort will be done in two parts with the first being done beginning approximately 15-17 June 2012 and ending approximately 19-20 Aug 2012. The second iteration will likely begin early Feb 2013 ending approximately nine weeks later Specific Requirements: The Contractor shall provide no more than two on-site personnel, as needed for no more than three hours each per day, to accomplish the aforementioned objectives. The on-site personnel will complete the Collaborative Institutional Training Institute (CITI) training course and provide proof of course completion prior to beginning actual support duties which are as follows: Participate in pre- and post-basic combat training (BCT) data collection including working with the USARIEM task lead to collect the required data of those soldiers taking part in the study. This initial data collection is anticipated to be completed during the first two days of the study. Under the direction of the USARIEM task lead, distribute study pills on a weekly basis. Check-in with study volunteers. Monitor volunteer compliance. Keep track of and report adverse events to USARIEM research team lead. Maintain research records of pill distribution, volunteer compliance and adverse effects, via a digital format to be provided by the USARIEM research team lead at the kick off of the study. Maintain communication (via email and/or telephone) between the USARIEM research team and Fort Sill staff. The NAICS code for this acquisition is 541990.
