Description
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV, seeks information about the availability of serial interface integrated circuit boards for acute and surgical patient monitoring equipment located within the Medical Center that are required for an interface between individual physiological monitors and VA ARK/CIS equipment. General Requirement. Anesthesia Record Keeping/Computer Information System (ARK/CIS) is a VA Central Office initiative that requires each medical center to install and utilize computerized equipment that records and stores data from physiological monitoring equipment used in acute and surgical patient care environments. The Medical Center uses Philips Medical Systems patient monitoring equipment in these departments. It is for these monitors that the serial interface cards are requested. The necessary serial interface integrated circuit boards are a manufacturer option available for the MP Series of monitors, manufactured by Philips. At the time of purchase, VA Clarksburg Medical Center had no requirement for serial interface capability; therefore, our monitors were purchased without this option. Due to the VACO initiative for ARK/CIS, it is necessary to acquire these serial interface circuit boards for the purpose of interfacing the monitors with the ARK/CIS equipment that is being installed. Equipment. The serial interface circuit boards will be installed in Philips Medical System monitors models MP-70, MP-50, and MP-30. Specific Requirements. The Medical Center requires serial interface integrated circuit boards, model IV I/F; Dual MIB/RS232, for existing Philips acute and surgical monitoring equipment. These circuit boards are to establish the interface between each Philips physiological monitor and the ARK/CIS computer. The cards specified by this requirement are manufactured by Philips Medical Systems specifically for the MP Series of monitors. They have been tested and approved for use in the MP Series per FDA requirements. The cards must be OEM-approved components that are completely compatible with the VA's physiological monitoring equipment as described in the Equipment section. Used, third-party, or re-manufactured circuit boards are not acceptable for this requirement. MP Series monitors are sophisticated medical devices used for intensive and acute patient monitoring in Intensive Care, OR/PACU, and the Emergency Department. It is imperative that the integrity, operation capability, and reliability of these monitors are not compromised by the installation of components that have not been designed and manufactured specifically for the MP Series monitors, and tested and verified per Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
