Description
The Keola Project is located on the Sierra National Forest, High Sierra Ranger District. The objectives for the project are to: • Reduce the risk to life and property from an unusually severe wildland fire event within the Keola Project area. • Improve effectiveness of fire suppression operations and firefighter safety within the project area. • Improve a stand's ability to withstand the drought cycles that are common in California without mortality above endemic levels and reduce the risk potential for insect- and disease-driven mortality within the project area. • Maintain the valued scenic character and its scenery attributes through time and ecological progression within the project area. To accomplish these objectives, the project includes the following work items: thinning and removing merchantable trees to a mill, thinning and removing sub-merchantable trees to a disposal site, tractor piling slash, hand piling slash, removing slash to a disposal site, and moving boulders off of the disposal site. (b) Resulting Contract - Any resultant contract will be an Integrated Resource Service Contract with provisions for timber removal (Stewardship). The project is located on the Sierra National Forest in Fresno County, California. The project area includes SNF System lands within the High Sierra Ranger District. To access the project area from Fresno go north on Highway 168, turn left onto Big Creek Road, turn right onto Huntington Lake Road, and the project area is on the right. The project legal description is T8S, R25E, Sections 14-16 and 21- 23; Mt. Diablo.
