Description
This is a notice of intent, not a request for a proposal. A solicitation document will not be issued and proposals will not be requested. National Institute on Drug Abuse, Office of Acquisitions-Neurosciences, Station Support/Simplified Acquisition, on behalf of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-Office of the Clinical Director (OCD), intends to negotiate and award a purchase order on a noncompetitive basis to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, 3800 Reservoir Road, NW, Washington, DC 20007-2113, to perform Clinical Research Training. The National Institute of Mental Health and the Georgetown University of School of Medicine are collaborating on the training of clinical fellows for research in psychiatry of complex medical illnesses, which is consistent with the mission of the NIMH. The University will provide residents for the NIMH Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison Service in the NIH Clinical Center. The residents will see patients enrolled in clinical research trials, as well as receive training in specialized research methods. Objectives include the following: • Performance and documentation of comprehensive psychosocial assessment of hospitalized patients • Development and implementation of diagnostic plans, including demonstration of the ability to expand the database by obtaining further historical information as well as laboratory and imaging studies • Development and implementation of psychopharmacologic interventions • Development and implementation of psychotherapeutic interventions • Communication of information necessary to develop multidisciplinary treatment plans • Demonstrate of the ability to conduct assessments and treatment in follow-up visits with patients • Evaluate current medical information and scientific evidence relevant to the treatment and pathophysiology of complex medically ill patients • Preparation of a research poster for presentation Georgetown University Hospital, under the auspices of MedStar Georgetown Medical Center, is a premier medical research institution. Georgetown University Hospital is the only hospital that can provide medical residents that are training in psychosomatic medicine-the hospital sponsors a highly competitive, advanced clinical training program in the area of expertise for its training as partners, the NIMH Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison Service (part of the NIMH Intramural Research Program) and Washington Hospital Center. Residents have previously been competitively selected and accepted for this specialized training program. The period of performance is 6 months. The acquisition is being conducted under simplified acquisition using FAR Part 12 procedures and is exempt from the requirement of FAR Part 6, Competition Requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. Interested parties may identify their interest and capabilities in response to this synopsis. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government.
