- I received the following question, the answer is below: Question : Does the Fire Protection Engineer have to witness the test, or can the inspectors operating under his control be present as long as the Fire Protection Engineer stamps the reports? Answer: The FPE has to do both the inspection and witnessing of the fire alarm test. They seem to think an inspector under the supervision of a FPE can do the survey work; also, the FPE can verify the FA technicians are doing the testing properly and in accordance with NFPA 72 guidelines.
