- This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. 25,000 SQ YARD, GEOGRID, MANUFACTURED FROM A PUNCHED POLYPROPLYLENE SHEET WHICH IS THEN ORIENTED IN THREE SUBSTANTIALLY EQUILATERAL DIRECTONS, SO THAT THE RESULTING RIBS SHALL HAVE A HIGH DEGREE OF MOLECULAR ORIENTATION, WHICH CONTINUES AT LEAST IN THE PART THROUGH THE MASS OF THE INTEGRAL NODE. TENSAR TRIAX TX5-475 OR EQUAL. IF QUOTING AN EQUAL PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS MUST BE PROVIDED WITH OFFER. MATERIAL SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING: "The design methodology utilized to determine the aggregate thickness was the Giroud-Han method as referenced below. 1. Giroud, J.P., and Han, J. (2004). "Design method for geogrid-reinforced unpaved roads. Part I- Development of design method." Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 130 (8), 775-786. 2. Giroud, J.P., and Han, J. (2004). "Design method for geogrid-reinforced unpaved roads. Part II - Calibration and applications." Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 130 (8), 787-797. This methodology is recognized by both ASCE as referenced above and FHWA in Chapter 5 section 5.5-2. The Giroud-Han methodology is accurate because the geogrid utilized has been calibrated to be used with this methodology. As such, in order to determine equality, alternate geogrid submittals should include geogrid specific calibration testing as well as the resulting calibration factor. This calibration will allow for the alternate geogrid to be compared side-by-side. An alternate geogrid may be utilized without this calibration testing, however, the required thickness of aggregate will default to 18 inches and the cost of additional aggregate will be added to the bid price of the geogrid to determine the total alternate geogrid cost."
