- Description
- Q2. Can we send the quote by email? A2. Yes Q3. Who will pay for the travel expenses for the contractor for the initial meeting with collaborators: the contractor or NOAA? A3. The travel costs for the initial meeting will be by the contractor as part of the cost. Virtual meeting are allowed via telephone or video conference. This meeting is design to ensure that PIFSC and the selected vendor are of like mind on the details of the work. Q4. What platform does the software need to run on? Windows or Linux or Mac? A4. Windows computability is required. Cross-platform compatibility is desirable. Q5. We plan to prototype the code in Matlab and then port it to C/C++ to generate the executable: please let us know if that is fine or if NOAA prefers some other software language or if there are some other requirements regarding the software language. A5. PIFSC will leave the choice of language to the developer provided that the developer should use an industry-standard software language. Q6. To automatically compute shape and physical size of fish, one first needs to perform 3D reconstruction of the fish from the two stereo views. Q6a. I assume that the two stereo video streams are synchronized: please confirm. A6a. Currently, the two stereo-video streams are not synchronized and are synchronized manually be the video analyst using a synchronization diode that flashes a standard sequence pattern every 60 seconds. In future, PIFSC plans to move to a fully-digital stereo-video camera system that will be fully synchronized. Q6b. I assume that the stereo system is not calibrated (it if is, please let us know). To calibrate the stereo vision system, we would need to place a calibration object (of known shape and size) in front of the two cameras. Please confirm if that would be possible. A6b. The system is calibrated and calibration files can be provided to the contractor. Q7. To automatically identify fish, we would need to have a digital database with images and size information about all the fish species. Would such a database be provided to the contractor? A7. To our knowledge, this database does not currently exist. However, digital images of many, if not all, of the fish spp are available through public sources such as fishbase.org. These images can be supplemented with images and video data help by PIFSC and the University of Hawaii. The University has a large archive of stereo-video data that has been annotated with time stamps for target fishes identified to species. Lengths are provided for the majority of targets. This data may be of use to the contractor in developing the automated algorithms. Q8. Our software would provide automated - Fish detection - Fish shape and physical size - Fish identification A8. Required Q8a. Would the following be needed: - Fish trajectory in 3D? - Fish motion in 3D (i.e. how it curves its body as it swims)? A8a. Optional Q9. Would you need any other information automatically extracted from the stereo video feeds? A9. Range to target for each fish
