- Description
- RFI PROC1300085 Title: Domain Name System (DNS) Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) IP Address Management (IPAM) also known as DNS/DHCP/IPAM (DDI) Equipment Background/ Purpose: DNS is a system for naming computers and network services that is organized into a hierarchy of domains. DNS naming is used in TCP/IP networks, such as the Internet, to locate computers and services with user-friendly names. When a user enters a DNS name in an application, DNS services can resolve the name to other information that is associated with the name, such as an IP address. Currently a high number of duplicate IP addresses on the USPTO network have negatively impacted services over the network. Because of this negative impact, an automated solution is being sought. The DNS Server role provides the following: • A Request for Comments (RFC)-compliant DNS server • DNS is an open protocol. It is standardized by a set of RFCs. Microsoft supports and complies with these standard specifications. • Interoperability with other DNS server implementations • Support for Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) The goal of this Request for Information (RFI) is to conduct market research to explore the technical aspects of the available products to meet this requirement. The Government is seeking industry input to assist in identifying features and solutions to meet the requirements described below. To support such an effort, the USPTO is also interested in evaluating, at no-cost, available products for an automated solution. Please note that the Government will NOT be responsible for any costs incurred by interested parties responding to this RFI. THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY. This RFI is issued solely for information and planning purposes and does not constitute a solicitation. Requirements: The DNS system solution will be evaluated based on whether it meets the criteria and requirements noted on the attached document. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: In response to this RFI, respondents shall submit written responses, not-to-exceed ten (10) pages in length via electronic mail. Product specification, sketches, or listings of authorized distributors are not to count as part of the page count. If the respondent's product is available for test or evaluation purposes, please indicate such availability in the written response. As stated elsewhere in this RFI, the availability, testing, and evaluation of any product shall be conducted at no cost to the Government. The Government is interested in receiving vendors' commercial published price lists for items they believe meet the need in this RFI. Supplying price data does not imply a contractual obligation and must be provided as a separate document, marked as PRICE DATA, and sent only to the primary point of contact identified below. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this request or to pay for the information solicited. All information received in response to this RFI that is marked PROPRIETARY will be handled accordingly. The Government will not release any information about your approach that might in any way compromise your competitive posture or proprietary information. The Government will not be liable for or suffer any consequential damages for any proprietary information not properly identified. Proprietary information will be safeguarded in accordance with the applicable Government regulations. Responses to this RFI will not be returned. Respondents will not be notified of the result of the review. Failure to respond to this RFI does not preclude participation in any future associated RFP/RFQ that may be issued. Information provided in no way binds the Government to solicit or award a contract. If a solicitation is released, it will be synopsized on the Federal Business Opportunities (FedBizOpps) website: www.fbo.gov. It is the potential vendor's responsibility to monitor this site for the release of any follow-on information. Responses, including the availability of products for evaluation purposes, shall be conducted at no cost to the Government. No reimbursement will be made for any costs associated with providing information in response to this announcement. Telephone calls requesting a solicitation will not be accepted or acknowledged. Responses to this RFI are voluntary and their source shall be treated as confidential. How to Respond: Please submit your response to this RFI (not to exceed 10 pages) via email to Linda.Applewhite@uspto.gov no later than 4:00 PM E.S.T Monday, January 7th, 2013. Please include RFI PROC1300085 on any correspondence. Primary Point of Contact: Linda Applewhite Contracting Office Address: P. O.
