Description
I.Introduction Assistant Project Manager Training Devices (APM TRADE), in support of the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI), is seeking industry participation, support, and feedback on the instantiation and sustainment of Live Training standards. This is an opportunity for industry to provide knowledge, insight, and direction in shaping and tempering Live Training standards to align with industry best practices. Industry participation is paramount to future training endeavors as these standards shall become common elements across Live Training architectures and programs and be interoperable with Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) overarching vision. The PM TRADE paradigm, which encompasses the Live Training domain, is focused on developing standards and leveraging common components in order to provide inherent interoperabilities as principal underlying architectures, such as the Common Training Instrumentation Architecture (CTIA), continue to be matured. Developing and implementing Live Training standards appropriately allows for improvements in the support for various mission programs and external efforts, direction of product-line configuration management, and organization of sustainment efforts. The intent of the Live Training standards working group is to facilitate a vendor-neutral approach and make allowances for standalone, scalable changes to systems that are transparent to the consumer. They will also allow for a common solution to be implemented at all sites and be interoperable with any vendor's standard-compliant system, thus deterring the creation of stovepipe systems. The implementation and usage of the Live Training standards reduce total ownership costs, while allowing improved ability to leverage industry products and evolve as technology improves. As such, these standards will be utilized in future Requests for Proposals (RFPs). This working group session is only one in a number of working groups that shall be scheduled to address various Live Training standards. This working group session is planned to update industry on the recent changes to current standards and address the Instrumentation System Tactical Engagement Simulation System (IS-TESS) standard. The workshop is scheduled for 5 and 6 March, 2013 at the U.S. Army PEO STRI, 12350 Research Parkway, Orlando, Florida 32826. The specific building is Partnership III, room 321 A/B. Once we receive initial feedback as to the number interested in participating, an updated agenda and any other pertinent information will be emailed to the interested participants, NLT 19 February 2013. Please note that space may be limited, so be sure to respond early if you plan to attend. II.Agenda Day 1: Provide status on the Audio Visual Cueing Standard, Power and Placement Standard, and the Multifunctional Vehicle Port Standard. Provide results of a study on extending the Live Personal Area Network (L PAN) standard, to include Bluetooth and/or Bluetooth Low Energy. Discuss APM TRADE's perceived issues regarding the current IS TESS standard and our candidate solutions. Break into work groups to analyze some of the IS TESS issues. Day 2: Continue work group effort. Provide a summary of each group's findings. III.IS TESS Issues The current IS TESS has TESS messages embedded within the structure. As a result, any changes or new capabilities require modification to all affected communications systems. Each communication system must be procured with a unique gateway that provides data per the Player Control Unit Common Training Instrumentation Architecture PCU CTIA (ie XML) standard. Once again, changes to this standard may result in reprogramming of each effected gateway. The IS TESS standard does include how TESS provides message addresses to a geographical area or a participant. APM TRADE is considering a rewrite of the IS TESS standard where the communications system receives a TESS message and provides the same at the other end of the data path. Issues to be resolved include the insertion of a radio's GPS and time stamp onto the message, implementing Quality of Service (QoS), and addressing of the message. Tentative workgroups are 1.Addressing of Messages: Between participants and gateway; participants and participants; and gateway/participant to a geographical area. Effective method of providing a carbon copy of a message to the gateway. 2.Messages: A system has three categories of messages - between gateway and communications system; between TESS and communications system; between TESS and gateway. Where should we standardize messages and where/how do we allow flexibility for different communication systems' capabilities? 3.IP Address Space: Should the IS TESS standard adopt an IP Address space methodology? If so, does the address space include LTEC components such as detectors? IV.Response to attend workshop. When responding to attend the workshop, please provide the following information via email to sharon.may@us.army.mil by COB 14 February, 2013. In the event of technical questions, please send questions to james.grosse@us.army.mil and lewis.marmelstein@us.army.mil by COB 14 February, 2013. 1.Organization Name 2.Names and Titles of Attendees 3.Number of Attendees 4.Point of Contact (Name, Title, Address, Phone/Fax, Email)
