- Description
- The Regional Nutrition Advisor is based within the Regional HIV/AIDS Program (RHAP) at USAID/Southern Africa in Pretoria, South Africa. The USAID Regional HIV/AIDS Program (RHAP) strengthens the response to HIV/AIDS in ten southern Africa countries. RHAP has a staff complement of 14 including the Office Director and 6 Technical Advisors. The Technical Advisors, inclusive of this position, guide PEPFAR programming and travel frequently to all the countries in southern Africa, as and when requested by USAID Missions and PEPFAR teams. RHAP's main function is to perform all activities related to the management of the PEPFAR programs in the Non-Presence countries of Lesotho and Swaziland. This includes budgeting, procurement, and all accountability functions. Furthermore, RHAP strengthens the technical and institutional capacity of African regional organizations to better implement HIV/AIDS programs and has a Knowledge Management program that is the custodian of best practices and cutting edge information on HIV/AIDS in the southern Africa region. The incumbent of this position will serve as a Regional Nutrition Advisor providing technical expertise and leadership to nutrition assessment, counseling, and support (NACS) programs affiliated with the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) funding. The NACS model was developed to address the nutrition needs of populations infected and affected by HIV. NACS provides a framework for strengthening nutrition support within all health programs at the facility and community levels and is an essential component of a comprehensive response to HIV care and treatment. The incumbent of this position will work with PEPFAR country teams, national governments, implementing partners, NGO's, civil society groups and others to address challenges, provide advocacy, and build needed technical capacity within countries to take NACS programs to scale. In addition, the incumbent will foster critical linkages between the Global Health Initiative (GHI)/PEPFAR and Feed the Future (FtF) initiatives and investments working to strengthen coordination of USG and other donor investments in food security, nutrition, and health at the facility and community level.
