Description
Description of Work: The Ash/Taylor Fencing Project includes construction of new fence h-braces to replace those that were burned in the 2012 wildfires. The new fence h-braces will be located within six areas of the Ash Creek Fire, two areas within the Taylor Creek Fire, and one area within the Dutch Fire. The work is spread across more than 57 miles of fence line. Precise details for performing the work will not be stipulated, except as considered essential for the successful accomplishment of the work. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies, and incidentals to complete the work according to the solicitation and resultant contract. Work covered under each Pay Item in the Schedule of Items includes: Pay Item No. 1 - Mobilization: The work shall consist of moving personnel, equipment, material, and incidentals to the project and performing all work necessary. The fence brace locations are spread across the landscape and are set in remote areas. The majority of the installation sites are accessible via motorized vehicle, but some may require walking. Pay Item No. 2 - Brace Construction (brace pipe, cross wires, & twist sticks): The brace is defined as the brace pipe, cross wires, and twist sticks. The 6" x 8' posts are not considered part of the brace and will be paid for under Item 3 in the Schedule of Items. The work shall consist of furnishing and installing a brace pipe, cross wires, and twist sticks for each brace as shown in the Plans. Pay Item No. 3 - 6" x 8' Wood Post Installation: The work shall consist of furnishing and installing treated 6" diameter x 8' length posts. Posts shall be set at a 36" depth in the ground. Hand tamping is required. Pay Item No. 4 - Removal and Disposal: The Contractor shall remove and legally dispose of all removed posts and brace materials including wire, staples, brace pipes, and other related appurtenances from National Forest System Lands. The Contractor shall not remove existing line fence wire or steel line posts. Pay Item No. 5 -Wire Attachment and Stretching: The work shall consist of attaching and stretching the existing barbed wire to the newly constructed brace. The addition of several feet of new wire may be needed to ensure that existing wire is long enough to be attached to the new brace. The contractor is only required to stretch the section that is attached immediately to the brace. No work is required on the fence that is not immediately adjacent to the braces. Project Location: The project is located on the Custer National Forest, Ashland Ranger District, in Powder River County, Montana. Specific project areas are situated in the Ash Creek, Taylor Creek, and Dutch Creek fire areas (2012 season) throughout the ranger district. • Ash Creek Fire: T1S R46E, T1S R47E, T2S R45E, T2S R46E, T2S R47E, T3S R47E, and T4S R47E • Taylor Creek Fire: T6S R47E, T7S R47E, and T7S R48E • Dutch Fire: T7S R48E and T7S R46E Price Range: Between $100,000 and $250,000. A Firm-Fixed Price contract is expected to result from this solicitation. No pre-bid tour will be conducted. Interested bidders may contact Scott Studiner at the Ashland Ranger District Office of the Custer National Forest, at 406-784-2344 for directions to view the project sites on their own. Contractors are urged to inspect the sites where the work will be performed. The solicitation will be available on approximately 25 February 2013 and can be downloaded from this website at that time.
