Description
A Concession Business Opportunity for Lodging, Food & Beverage and Retail Services at Mabry Mill and Rocky Knob within the Blue Ridge Parkway On March 8, 2013, the National Park Service (NPS) will issue a prospectus for solicitation of offers for a 10-year concession contract to provide for Lodging, Food & Beverage and Retail Services at Mabry Mill and Rocky Knob. Mabry Mill Overview (Mile Post (MP) 176.2) Mabry Mill is one of Blue Ridge Parkways most popular visitor attractions due to its rich history and picturesque environment. Facilities at Mabry Mill include the historic gristmill, sawmill and blacksmith shop, which were built shortly after the turn of the 20th century and restored to provide visitors a view of pioneer life in Appalachia. A short trail connects these structures as well as provides informative exhibits and interpretive displays. Directly south of the historic area is the Mabry Mill Restaurant and Gift Shop, which caters not only to those stopping to view the mill, but also to visitors passing by and staying within the area. Other nearby Parkway attractions include a variety of recreational activities that include hiking, camping and picnicking. Rocky Knob Overview (Mile Post (MP) 174) The Rocky Knob recreation area has more than 3,500 acres of mostly rugged, forested terrain, including Rock Castle Gorge. An extensive trail system in Rock Castle Gorge, including the Rock Castle Gorge Loop Trail, a designated National Scenic Trail, provides excellent hiking and access to backcountry opportunities. The Concession Opportunity at Rocky Knob includes the seven Rocky Knob Cabins. The Cabins, with direct access to the southern entrance to Rock Castle Gorge, are historic structures constructed in 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. First developed as trail lodges, the Cabins were remodeled for use as family housekeeping units in 1950. Today, the Cabins offer a relaxed visitor experience with close proximity to several natural, cultural and historical sites including the Gorges hiking trails, the historic Mabry Mill, and Fairy Stone State Park. All offers must be received by the NPS at the address listed on the inside front cover of the prospectus no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2013, in order to be evaluated and considered for an award of a concession contract. The prospectus describes the business opportunity and includes the terms and conditions under which the NPS will award the concession contract. The prospectus will be available on the NPS website at http://concessions.nps.gov/prospectuses.htm, or you can receive a hard copy for $40.00. To request a hard copy of the prospectus to be delivered via Federal Express, send a check for $40.00 payable to the National Park Service to Mark Morgan at the address listed below. Please include a physical address (no post office box) and telephone number. You may also pick up a printed copy at the Superintendents Office at Blue Ridge Parkway Headquarters for $35.00 (checks only). If you are planning to submit a proposal and have obtained your prospectus from the website, we recommend that you advise Mark Morgan, Concessions Management Specialist, Southeast Region, NPS, AFC, 1924 Building, 100 Alabama Street, S.W., Atlanta, GA 30303 at (404) 507-5638 or e-mail at Mark_Morgan@nps.gov of your interest so your contact information can be placed on a mailing list to receive future responses to questions or amendments to the prospectus. Those receiving a hard copy or who are on the mailing list will be provided with any additional information specific to the prospectus in writing. The same information is posted to the above mentioned website. No telephone requests for the prospectus will be honored. A site visit has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Please RSVP Laura Nelson at 828-348-3407 or Laura_S_Nelson@nps.gov for details and to reserve a spot. Questions in response to this prospectus are due in writing by Wednesday, May 1, 2013, to the address listed on the inside front cover of the prospectus or by email to Mark Morgan.
