Description
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) Engine Ignition Starter Switch Replacement INTRODUCTION This is a Request for Information (RFI) for the KC-135R/T. There is not a solicitation available at this time. This RFI is published for Market Research purposes only. Participation in this RFI is optional and not required in order to respond to any subsequent procurement this Contracting Agency may take. Any information used will be on a non-attribution basis. Restrictions that would limit the Government's ability to use the information for these purposes are of limited value to the Government and are discouraged. There is no commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation, to make an award or awards, or to be responsible for any monies expended by any interested parties in support of any effort in response to this RFI. Any information submitted in response to this RFI is strictly voluntary. This RFI is strictly for information planning purposes and the Government will not pay or otherwise reimburse respondents for information submitted. All documentation shall become the property of the Government. Unless otherwise stated herein, no additional information is available. PURPOSE The AFLCMC/WKDM Program Office, Tinker AFB, OK, is conducting market research to determine the cost and schedule for procuring a replacement for its current engine ignition starter (EIS) switch. The purpose of this procurement would be to replace the existing EIS switch with a quick-connect, fully encapsulated switch. DESCRIPTION Each C/KC-135 has four EIS switches located inside the pilot instrument panel. With the current EIS switch design, mechanical movements at the back of the switch are not enclosed and are exposed to debris that may jam and damage the switch. The switch is also difficult to maintain because of the difficulty in soldering wires to the switch within the confined space behind the pilot instrument panel. The switch is NSN 5930011724092. AFLCMC/WKDM would like to mitigate these issues by procuring a fully encapsulated switch, protecting it from debris, which can be quickly disconnected to provide access for maintenance. The new switch must be interface compliant with the existing aircraft configuration. The design should meet all requirements delineated in SAE AS50881for soldering, crimping, and internal wiring. DISCLAIMER This RFI is issued solely for information and planning purposes and does not constitute a solicitation. In accordance with FAR 15.201(e), responses to this notice are not offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract. Respondents are solely responsible for all expenses associated with responding to this RFI. Responses to this RFI will not be returned. Respondents will not be notified of the result of the review. All responses must be unclassified. RESPONSE Responses shall address: 1. Technical details of design--Include details for both female receptacle (aircraft side) and male connector (switch side). 2. Design's estimated cost information (Rough Order of Magnitude) - A-Kit and B-Kit Cost break out - Estimated installation cost with installation hours - Any nonrecurring engineering 3. Delivery schedule/product availability of 396 EIS switch kits+40 spares 4. Mean time between failure (MTBF) 5.
