- Description
- This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. In the vicinity of the Santa Ana River areas described in paragraph 2 above, the drilling contractor (Contractor) will drill and sample approximately four (4) soil borings to a depth of one-hundred (100) feet and approximately ten (10) soil borings to between thirty (30) and fifty (50) feet below the existing ground surface. Hollow-stem augers (HSA) are the preferred method of drilling. The soils consist primarily of sands, silts, and some clay with gravel and occasional boulders. Bedrock may be encountered in some of the holes, in which case drilling will be terminated. Groundwater may be encountered in some or all of the holes, and heaving/flowing sands are likely in the deeper holes. In the event that groundwater and/or heaving sands prevent the use of hollow-stem augers to reach total depth, the driller, at the direction of the Corps geologist, shall be prepared to convert from hollow-stem augering to the quote mark wet quote mark rotary drilling method through the HSA in order to advance a hole to its required depth. In addition to HSA drilling, the contractor will excavate approximately fifteen (15) test pits to a depth of twelve (12) feet with a backhoe or excavator to enable the geologist to log the test pits and collect bulk soil samples for laboratory testing.
