- This is a sources sought notice only; it is not a request for quotations or offers. The VISN 9 Network Contracting Office is conducting market research for the Nashville VA Medical Center to identify potential sources for a contract to provide Autopsy Assistant Services. Once a contract is awarded, the Contractor's employee(s) who meet all of the requirements of the contract shall work during the hours specified. The required Contractor's employee(s) must be present at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Nashville (VAMC or VA) facility during the hours specified in the contract. The services include but are not limited to the following: "Upon telephonic (verbal) notification, the Contractor will provide a fully trained autopsy assistant who will arrange with the VA autopsy resident or attending pathologist a mutually agreeable and reasonable time for the autopsy. Services will be performed on site at the Nashville VAMC. "The autopsy assistant will follow the written VA policies and procedures for the preparation, performance and clean up of autopsy services. The VA policies and procedures are available at the autopsy site and include, but are not limited to, the following: "Check the patient's wrist identification band and toe identification tag to make certain they are in agreement with the name and social security number listed on the consent form and in the medical record (chart). "Place and prepare the body in the proper position on the autopsy table at the agreed upon time. " Set out the necessary instruments. "Carry out the primary incision, organ and tissue removal and dissection, fluid collection with accurate measurement, and other procedures at the request and under the professional direction of the attending pathologist and/or the autopsy resident without disfigurement and with due regard for the blood vessel requirements of embalming. "Use power surgical instruments to remove skullcap and remove brain. "Remain in the morgue during the entire performance of the autopsy procedure and provide manual assistance to the pathologist and resident in performing the autopsy procedure. "Prepare and label appropriate containers of 10% Formalin fixative and place designated organs in said container. "Suture, wash, dry, cover, place in body bag and refrigerate the body immediately after the autopsy. "Completely clean and disinfect the autopsy room, instruments, equipment, scales, and other contaminated and soiled items and areas immediately after the autopsy. "Discard biohazard waste in the appropriate containers. "Follow safety procedures and policies for universal precautions, tuberculosis and other infectious cases, and handling of formalin. "Prepare and leave a written list of items that need replenishing, repair, or replacement. " Must have at least five years experience. "Background Investigation will be conducted by the VA through the VSC Security Services "The VA's goal is to make this contract/requirement into a Base plus 4 option years. Interested parties should respond to the Contract Specialist, Curtis Cardoza by e-mail at curtis.cardoza@va.gov. Interested parties should respond no later than 19 April 2013 at 2:00 P.M. Central Time. This sources sought notice is to assist the Nashville VA Medical Center in identifying an appropriate acquisition strategy only. Written communication received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining current market capabilities for the services identified within this notice. A solicitation is not currently available. If a solicitation is issued, it will be announced and posted on this website at a later date, and interested parties must respond to the solicitation to be considered for award. This notice does not commit the government to contract for any supply or service. The government will not pay for any information or administrative cost incurred in response to this Sources Sought Notice. Do not contact medical center staff in regards to this requirement, as they are not authorized to discuss matters related to this procurement action. All questions should be submitted in writing for this procurement to the Contract Specialist.
