- Description
- The Aircraft Structure and Propulsion Branch has the need to simulate high altitude aircraft icing situations, and to run tests that simulate different icing scenarios. This wind tunnel is owned by UTC Aerospace Systems and it is specifically suited to test icing scenarios at a high altitude. This is the only publicly available wind tunnel that has a high altitude ice producing wind testing simulation. The other known commercial wind tunnel operators can only reproduce icing scenarios at ground level altitude. The FAA has specified the need to have these high altitude icing tests completed as quickly as possible. There are no known alternatives, however; if your firm would like to challenge this assertion the FAA welcomes your inquiry and we will contact you to see if your firm has the type of equipment the FAA needs.
