Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Alaska Science Center, Anchorage, AK has a requirement to purchase GPS Iridium collar for lynx: Lightweight (<400 g) satellite-capable global positioning system (GPS) collars to monitor movements and habitat use of lynx in the Brooks Range, Alaska. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: I) <400 g total weight 2) Drop-off mechanism 3) 2:4 GPS relocations a day (I every 6 hours) 4) 280-370 day battery life 5) Collar length = 32 cm 6) VHF transmission> 6 hrs. Per day Lynx are small (approx. 8 kg) felids that rely on stealth and speed in variable snow and vegetation conditions to subsist on their primary prey, snowshoe hares, in the boreal regions of Alaska. Animals on this project will be captured, collared, and released in a remote region of Alaska. These animals will commonly range over large areas, thus we need a collar that acquires and transmits relocation data frequently within a relatively "light" (<400 g or 5% of average body mass) unit that can be programmed to drop off the animal before the VHF radio expires. This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. The solicitation number is G13PS00383 and is issued as a Request for Quotation (RFQ). The solicitation and incorporated provisions and clauses are those in affect through Federal Acquisition Circular (FAC) 2005-66, effective 01 April 2013. The Government anticipates award of a commercial, firm-fixed price type contract. All firms must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) database at www.sam.gov, to be considered at award. Responses must be in writing, by email to the Contract Specialist: jmdavis@usgs.gov The applicable North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is 334220, Radio and Television Broadcasting and Wireless Communications Equipment Manufacturing and the size standard is 750 employees. Subject to availability of funds.
