- Description
- 1. The Air Force Uniform Office (AFUO) encourages all industry partners to participate in the approval program. This program benefits all parties and ensures safe, affordable uniform products to the USAF warfighter. 2. To better ensure the warfighter is provided a safe and effective product, undergarments (i.e. t-shirts, underwear, bras, etc.) must meet the following requirements and provide as required: a. Testing results from an independent lab demonstrating the garments meet the requirements of ASTM D6413 - Standard Test Method for Flame Resistance of Textiles (Vertical Test.) Test results shall not be more than six months old. Note: If the garment has a Flame Resistant (FR) finish, a minimum of twenty-five (25) launderings are required to be performed. If the garment is inherently FR, five (5) launderings are required. b. One sample of each end item, size large. c. Items shall be inspected for defects in accordance with the following: Any hole, cut, loose knit, miss knit or tear; any part shaded; any spot or stain (outside); raw edges; open seams; needle chew; thread ends not removed; or loose tension resulting in loose seams; any material defects, distorted parts or poor workmanship; any component part omitted, damaged, full, tight or twisted; any part attached incorrectly; any part caught in unrelated operation or stitching; topstitching not finishing 1/16 inch from folded edge; junction of seams not meeting within 1/4 inch; any shaded part, discoloration, or color not as specified; any spot, stain, or foreign matter; waistband curling; any seam puckered, distorted, pleated or irregular; label missing, incorrect, or illegible; any material defects, distorted parts or poor workmanship. 3. Upon successful submission of the above, the garment(s) will be added to the USAF No-Melt, No-Drip Approved Product List. The approval is valid for three years. At the conclusion of that period, new samples and testing results must be submitted to continue as an approved product. 4. Provide the company name, address, phone number, point of contact, and CAGE code with the submission of the test results and garments. 5. For further information, please contact 2d Lt Drew A. Dwyer, 937-656-5495, drew.dwyer@wpafb.af.mil.
