- Description
- The purpose of this sources sought inquiry (request for information) is to gain knowledge of commercially available arctic excavation services. The United States Coast Guard has located a downed J2F-4 Grumman Duck aircraft in the arctic of Greenland that was lost during World War 2. The aircraft is in a remote region of the arctic and buried under 40 feet of ice. The USCG has a requirement to contract out the planning, documentation, set-up, and action required for the establishment and maintenance of a temporary arctic staging camp along with the excavation and retrieval of the deceased airmen and their personal effects. The remains will then be transported back to the United States. Based on the above, the USCG is seeking capabilities statements from businesses that can provide these services in a potentially dangerous arctic environment. The mission must be performed between July 1st and August 12th due to severe arctic conditions. Beyond this timeframe, the risk is too great due to weather concerns. It is unknown at this time when and if weather conditions will allow the mission to be undertaken next year. This request for information is for the purposes of market research and for the aiding of determining potential sources only. There is no guarantee of a forthcoming solicitation and the USCG will not reimburse Contractor costs for any responses to this notice. Responses to this notice should include: 1. A capability statement of the points above; 2. Company name, address, telephone number, point of contact; 3. The size status of your business; and 4. Small business concerns should indicate their status and type. The closing date and time of this request for information is 05/23/2013 at 2pm ET. Please send all responses to James Robinson at James.R.Robinson@uscg.mil.
