There are 410 buildings on the base equating to approximately 6,455,403 square feet. Use of these buildings vary including: Maintenance for aircraft and vehicles, Civil Engineering, Base Supply, Base Housing, Administration, Communications, and David Grant Medical Center. Travis' workforce consists of 13,409 military members and civilian employees. There are approximately 7,063 Active Duty personnel stationed at Travis Air Force Base: 6,893 Air Force personnel; 160 Navy/Marine Corps personnel; and 10 Army personnel. There are also 3,078 Air Force Reserve personnel stationed at Travis Air Force Base. Travis also employs approximately 3,268 civilian personnel, including personnel from the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Veterans Affairs. Civilian employees are divided into six major categories: General Schedule, Wage Grade, Non-Appropriated Fund, Commissary, contractor and private business. Military Retirees Approximately 48,135 military retirees and their families reside within a 50 mile radius of Travis Air Force Base and earn an approximate total of $1,231,098,924 in annual retirement annuities. These personnel spend about $0.659 of each dollar earned, or approximately $811,294,191 in their local economies. Of the above number of military retirees, approximately 8,721 military retirees and their families reside in the local area. They earn an approximate total of $229,305,576 in annual retirement annuities. These personnel spend about $0.659 of each dollar earned, or approximately $151,112,375 in their local economies.
