Description
Description: This project involves the reduction of understory trees within natural stands by the use of hand held equipment on 116 acres. The remaining 70 acres will consist of clearing trees and brush; hand piling; covering piles; removal of hazard trees; constructing hand lines around individual piles and hand pile heavy concentrations of heavy forest debris outside of cabin lots boundaries. One or more of these actives may be needed in each stand. Description of Items 1 and 2: Oski Bear Pac Thin, (88 ac) & Lost Horse SMZ Thinning, (28 ac): Treatment areas will consist of mature forest with natural under story regeneration. Boundaries of treatment areas will be marked with blue and white striped flagging with the unit corners flagged with 3 blue and white striped flags. If the boundary is unclear, the Government will, at the Contractor's request, remark the boundary in question with blue and white striped flagging. All markings from previous treatments, including flagging of any color, will be disregarded. Non-commercial thinning of conifers will be performed in on 116 acres. Elevation ranges from 6,000' to 6,300' above sea level. Slopes are generally less than 35%, with some small steeper areas. Aspect is generally north facing. Understory vegetation consists primarily of grass, forbs, chinkapin, and tanoak. Description Item 3 Silver Lake WUI 70 acres: The purpose of this project is to reduce the fire danger, resulting from accumulation of natural forest debris, brush and small diameter trees, in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). The object is to improve structure protection capabilities and defensible space for suppression. Treatment areas will be outside of cabin lots which will be flagged in white and blue stripes. Project Location: The project is located on the Eldorado National Forest, Amador Ranger District. The Amador Ranger District office is located at 26820 Silver Drive, Pioneer, CA 95666, approximately 18 miles (29km) east of Jackson, CA on State Highway 88. All work sites are within approximately 1 hour travel time from the district office. The location of the work sites, access to the area, size of stands, and other information pertinent to each treatment stand is contained on the vicinity and location maps and Supplemental Specifications Data Table and will be posted with the Solicitation.
