- Description
- The United States Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), intends to issue up to two fixed-price contracts for the evaluation, repair and refurbishment of Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) klystrons for the National Reconditioning Center in Kansas City, MO. These repaired and refurbished klystrons shall meet the specified operational characteristics when installed in NEXRAD WSR-88D radars. The NEXRAD radar transmitter uses a high power Klystron amplifier to produce the radio frequency pulses used to detect weather data. Two versions of klystrons are used in the NWS NEXRAD radar transmitters: the Litton (now L-3 Communications) L-5782-20 and the Communication and Power Industries VKS-8287(A). These klystrons conform to the NWS specification (Drawing) Number 1213614, Revision C. Contractors interested in this acquisition must have the capacity to do all analytical repair and preparation for shipment of no less than 15 klystrons in a time span of one year; must have demonstrated experience in repairing klystrons; and in-house capability to evaluate klystrons, repair klystrons, and conduct performance test and document results. The period of performance is anticipated from the date of award through five years. All interested parties must submit their company information to the attention of Charlene Yaple at Charlene.a.yaple@noaa.gov, no later than close of business June 3, 2013. Information shall include brief supporting documentation to demonstrate the capability of performing the klystron repair as described above as well as providing references indicating successful completion of the work and services. If no qualified companies respond to this announcement, the Government reserves the right to limit issuance of the Request for Proposal to L-3 Communications and CPI. Eastern Acquisition Division, requires that all Contractors doing business with this office be registered with System for Award Management (SAM). No award can be made to a company not registered in SAM. For additional information to register in SAM, please access the following web site: https://www.sam.gov. In order to register, all firms must have a Dun & Bradstreet Number. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
