- Description
- Attachment 1 - 3 West NMAH RFQ #F13SOL10024 - 3 West NMAH The Smithsonian Institution ("Smithsonian"), on behalf of its National Museum of American History located at 1400 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC ("NMAH"), is interested in selecting the most qualified exhibit design firms for this project identified as F13SOL10024 (also referenced herein as the "Project"). The NMAH is seeking an exhibit design firm with which to collaborate, create and develop an immersive and multisensory visitor experience within the NMAH. This is a complex project that includes the design of separate exhibition spaces, corridors, and lobbies within the third floor west wing of NMAH ("hereinafter referenced as "3 West" or "3W") as further detailed in this Request for Qualification. NMAH seeks to redefine expectations for history exhibitions and make this exhibition a path-breaking 21st century museum experience. Creating it will require a blend of drama and special effects to enliven and personalize traditional museum settings and artifact display. It will require compelling application of innovative techniques to attract, engage, and educate our diverse audiences. This conceptual development design will require concerted effort and attention, and will be a full collaboration between the selected exhibit design firm and the Smithsonian. The selected exhibit design firm shall provide exhibit development and design services for 3 West, including a major anchoring exhibition, On with the Show; Changing Galleries that could feature temporary exhibitions that will address varied themes and stories in American cultural history; an entrance corridor; Landmark zone; two music lobby display areas; and two built-in corridor music cases flanking the performance/program space in the Hall of Music (collectively, "Exhibits"). The combined spaces total approximately 15,000 square feet/1,394 square meters. This Request for Qualification is intended to expedite the request for proposal process and the selection of an exhibit design firm. The Smithsonian Institution intends to award one (1) firm, fixed price contract for exhibit design services at the Schematic/10% Design and fund raising materials phase for this Project. Contract award for schematic design and fundraising materials is anticipated in September 2013. The information you provide in the Qualification Statement ("Qualification Statement" or "Statement") will be the basis for the evaluation of your firm. The prequalification of exhibit design firms is a highly competitive process. To assure your Statement is given full consideration, you must read the attached package carefully, along with Attachment 1, to make sure you understand what is required and provide all of the required information in the requested format. A fully completed Exhibit Design Qualification Statement Package (Part III) will be considered the company's Experience/Performance and will be evaluated solely to determine if the firm is to be Prequalified as follows: • Narrative Description • Firm's Experience and Past Experience • Management • Overall Capabilities. The Smithsonian reserves the right to change the scope or any other aspect of this Project. The Smithsonian expressly reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to not proceed with this solicitation, or any subsequent negotiations or contract. This pre-solicitation notice shall not commit the Smithsonian to pay any qualification statement or proposal preparation costs nor to provide reimbursements for any costs associated with a response to the same. Interested qualified firms are invited to submit Qualification Statements to be delivered to Lawana L. Bryant via electronic mail at BryantL@si.edu by no later than 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on July 1, 2013. Failure to submit a complete package will render the submission unacceptable. Faxed submissions will NOT be accepted. Preface submission with an attached original copy brief letter on company letterhead. The Smithsonian Institution will dispose of submitted materials sixty (60) days after receipt. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS.
