Description
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) " Scan Mirrors for Aerospace Applications" 1. BACKGROUND The Applied Optics Branch at the Naval Research Laboratory, develops advanced sensor and exploitation technology, builds and demonstrates rapid prototypes, for transition to production/acquisition, of electro-optical systems for Navy and other government organizations. It has successfully transitioned airborne systems for tactical reconnaissance and surveillance, hyperspectral detection, and infrared wide area persistent surveillance in to both programs of record, and Quick-Reaction Capability initiatives. 2. PROBLEM STATEMENT/REQUIREMENTS NRL, Applied Optics Branch, is seeking interested contractors that can provide scan mirror assemblies to enhance the capability of existing sensors by increasing their Field Of Regard (FOR). The key performance parameters are listed below for an example sensor: • The mirror assembly shall provide a FOR of +/- 90 degrees in azimuth and a minimum of +/-45 degrees in elevation. • The mirrors shall be software commandable to provide a line of sight at any angular position within the hemispherical FOR. • The line of sight shall be maintainable to within 6 microradians • The limiting optical aperture of the mirror assembly shall be at least 8 inches diameter. • The output beam from the mirror assembly shall fill the 8-inch diameter aperture of the example sensor. • The mirror assembly shall be able to step the line of sight in 1.5-degree increments at a 10 Hz rate. • The mirror assembly shall be reactionless, i.e., shall not induce any forces, torques or vibration onto the mounting structure, for mirror movements of at least +/-3-10 degrees. • The mirror assembly shall be sufficiently rugged for tactical military aircraft usage, and shall survive carrier takeoffs and landings. • The envelope of the mirror assembly shall be contained with a cylinder of 20 inches diameter. 3. RESPONDING TO THIS RFI Sources able to satisfy the above capabilities are invited to submit a White Paper describing their solution/system. Please limit White Paper submissions to a maximum of 5 pages (including a cover page) and provide the following information: Cover page (maximum 1 page) Contact and company information Name Title Company Name Date of incorporation Number of years in business Brief overview of company history FY11 and 12 sales Number of employees Location Mailing address Phone number Website address Email address Note that RFI respondents shall designate a single Point of Contact for receipt of all information pursuant to this RFI. List any pertinent GSA schedule should you have any Name/type of technology or model Technology maturity: Existing technology or technology concept; technology readiness level Body of White Paper (maximum 4 pages) Provide a technical description to include existing or expected performance characteristics/capabilities for key components of the technology/concept. 4. GOVERNMENT PLANS This RFI is issued solely for market research, planning and information purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government to issue a subsequent solicitation (Broad Agency Announcement, Request for Proposal, etc.).
