Description
See below for questions/answers and other details relevant to this RFI. Question: Are the "operational scenario modeling" studies that are described in the solicitation expected to be carried out on the Navy vessel (thus requiring military-hardened hardware) or are they generally carried out in shore-based facilities? Answer: The system and all of the studies will be carried out in a lab facility at Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst, NJ. COTS computer hardware is therefore acceptable. Extended Details Purpose: To conduct studies in order to ensure adequate space exists on an aviation capable ship to efficiently operate and maintain the air wing. This will allow us to identify choke points and analyze space utilization that could impact operational capabilities and efficiencies. History: In the past, the logistics items and support equipment required to support the air wing were generally assumed to fit without negative impacts to aircraft movement and operation. Problem: The logistics tail associated with newer aircraft is larger in space, weight, and quantity which has negated this assumption. Outcome: To be able to create a touch table system that would allow multiple ground controllers (at an airport) to simulate the placement and movement of aircraft, tow tractors, luggage carts, maintenance equipment, etc. around the airfield (including hangar facilities and store rooms). This system will facilitate studies which utilize fleet personnel to lay out all equipment, spares, and aircraft on the ship then work through one or more operational scenarios, periodically documenting aircraft/equipment layouts through the export of digital image and CAD "snapshots".
