- Description
- The NASA Glenn Research Centers Plumbrook Station located in Sandusky Ohio has need for two nominally 15000 cfm Rotary Lobe high vacuum booster pumps. The pumps are used in a unique manner for vacuum operations at the SPF. The pumps are used to initially evacuate the vacuum chamber from atmosphere down to approx 90 torr where the mechanical roughing pumps are started and used to back the rotary lobe pumps for further evacuation of the chamber. Technical Tasks: A.The contract company shall provide two Rotary Lobe Blowers with: oA nominal 15960 cfm pumping speed at 600 rpm and 18350 cfm at 690 RPM. oCapability to operate on existing NASA motors of 500 HP and 709 RPM and 1000 HP and 600 RPM. The 1000 HP motor runs 2 20x50 pumps, a right hand and a left hand. The exact pumping speed required to function properly in the existing NASA Plum Brook multistage rotary lobe vacuum pump system shall be determined by the contractor. NASA/GRC intends to purchase the items from General Electric Energy Roots division.General Electric Energy Roots division is the current manufacturer of record for the SPF vacuum system. They retain the original design and construction specifications, documents and operational data for the units used in the Plum Brook SPF vacuum system.
