- INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE CLASSIFICATION CODE: J066 - Maintenance of Instruments and Lab Equipment SUBJECT: X-ray tube for an EDAX model Eagle III X-ray spectrometer parts and installation. SOLICITATION NUMBER: NB646010-13-04622 RESPONSE DATE: July 31st, 2013 CONTACT POINTS: Erik Frycklund, Contract Specialist erik.frycklund@nist.gov, 301-975-6176 Andrea Parekh, Contracting Officer, andrea.parekh@nist.gov, 301-975-6984 DESCRIPTION: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Edax Inc. for the repair and replacement of parts for an existing Edax Eagle III µProbe System. This includes the x-ray tube and components used in this microfluorescence (XRMF) spectrometer. The Advanced Chemical Science Laboratory in the Chemical Sciences Division requires repair of their microfluorescence spectrometer from Edax Inc. Edax Incorporated of Mahwah, NJ is the only vendor that has the proprietary design rights to the existing system. Therefore, they are the only company that can provide repair for the spectrometer and including parts. Delivery shall be FOB Destination, Gaithersburg, MD. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, the Government will consider responses received by July 31th, 2013. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
