- Description
- The US Geological Survey, New Jersey Water Science Center (NJWSC) has agreements with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and The City of Trenton, to install a continuous water quality monitor on the Delaware River at Frenchtown, New Jersey, USGS station number 01458500. NJWSC will install a water quality monitor at the existing stage-only gage. The monitor will measure and record turbidity, specific conductance, and water temperature. The station is to be operated and maintained by the USGS along the Delaware River upstream of the Uhlerstown-Frenchtown Bridge, in Frenchtown, NJ. The USGS will provide hourly data in near real-time throughout the year and to publish daily maximum, minimum, and mean values. A YSI model 6920 V2 monitor with optical ports will be used to measure turbidity, specific conductance, and water temperature. Real-time water-quality data are to be used by the NJDEP and City of Trenton to continuously monitor the water quality conditions in the Delaware River 30 miles upstream of Trenton. This monitor will give the Trenton Water Treatment facility a warning of changing water quality conditions in the river. The water flowing past Frenchtown takes 7 hours to reach the filtration plant at high flows.
