Description
This is a Synopsis. The National Park Service intends to solicit a Tree Thinning and Clearing project. The proposed place of performance is Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg, PA. This proposed contract may include a base plus four option periods. The NAICS code and size standard for this procurement are 561730 and $7.0 million. The proposed period of performance is September 1, 2013 August 31, 2014. (Base Period) plus four option periods ending August 31, 2018. Scope of work: Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, materials, transportation and supervision necessary to conduct tree thinning and clearing project. The work is divided into three categories: Health Cuts: Health Cuts involve the removal of selected trees with the specific purpose of improving stand characteristics. Many health cuts are conducted to help restore park historic woodlots to a stand structure that is both more representative of the civil war period and more ecologically sustainable. Inventory and marking of trees to be removed will be accomplished by the park before the contractor begins work. Total Tree Removal: Trees to be removed will be felled either mechanically (feller buncher, feller forwarder, or processor/harvester) or manually (chainsaw or other manual methods) and skidded or forwarded to a landing with a cable or grappler skidder. Trees shall be felled only when there is an adequate felling area at least equal in radius to the height of the tree. Special Attention/Hazard Trees: Subject to the American National Standard for Arboricultural Operations Pruning, Repairing, Maintaining and Removing Trees and Cutting Brush Safety Requirements ANSI Z133.1-2000. A certified Arborist will plan and supervise the removal of any special attention or hazard trees. Additional information may be obtained by submitting a request in writing to Ryan Martin.
